We invite you to join us and be
part of an unforgettable event that will take place for the first time in
Hobart.
Between the 4th and the 8th of
December 2004 Hobart will host its first tango Festival.
As part of this five-day event,
first class visiting argentine dancers will bring the passion of Argentine
tango into Hobart.
Highlights of the Hobart tango
festival will include two nights of spectacular
floor shows by professional argentine tango dancers (sydney &
melbourne), an introductory workshop
for beginners, a 4-day intensive short-course
(14 sessions), live performances, a gala evening, and a
traditional milonga “theme-night”
closing ceremony.
The short-course will cover techniques and styles of argentine tango, and
offer a valuable opportunity to
benefit from the teaching of
visiting Argentine tango professional instructors right here in Hobart.
Syllabus of the course covers
advanced techniques and embellishments (man and women) in argentine tango,
styles such as milonguero, canyengue, salon, apile, vals etc., and
includes special sessions on milonga
and argentine folklore.

this unique event that is part in a long term vision of promoting
authentic Argentine Tango in
Tasmania, its tango
club, and the newly formed tango orchestra of Hobart.

Tango Spectacular Dinner & Show
A gala
evening of Argentine Tango music and dancing served with an exquisite 3-course
meal (Italian cuisine),
highlighted
by stunning floor-show
performances and a social evening of Argentine Tango music and dancing.
Argentine
Tango Dance Workshops
INTRODUCTION: A 2-hour dance workshop
conducted by professional Argentine Tango dancers. This workshop covers
the
history and development of Argentine Tango, its music, its rhythms and its
styles. It presents and introduction
to the
basic patterns of the dance and some of its classic figures.
No prior
dance experience needed.
TANGO: A (1hr) intermediate-advanced
tango workshop lesson. Basic knowledge of tango required.
MILONGA: A (1hr) continuation workshop
focusing the “milonga” style of tango.
Argentine
Tango SHORT-COURSE
(14 SESSIONS)
Three
days of progressive (1hr) special sessions conducted by internationally
renowned Argentine instructors.
The syllabus of this
short-course covers advanced techniques
and embellishments (man and women) in
Argentine tango, its legendary
styles such as Milonguero, Canyengue, Salon, Apile, Vals etc. And includes
special
sessions on Milonga and Argentine
Folklore.
Farewell
Milonga
A symbolic farewell Milonga
“theme night” marking the end of the festival. The night will culminate with
the last series of
performances by visiting dancers.
